just got to thinking October 13, 2004

I am helping a friend immigrate to Canada.  The process has gotten me thinking about U.S. immigration.  I am puzzled by a few things.

I don't mind people coming here so long as they try to do it legally.  I really don’t care who comes here so long as they aren’t a criminal wanting to commit crimes here.

There is lots of land in this country that doesn't have anyone living there.  It is not like we don't have room for more people here.

I don’t understand why it is considered "racist" and "anti-immigrant" if you oppose ILLEGAL immigration across the Mexican/U.S. border. It isn’t just workers who come across this border illegally.  Workers and criminals sneak over the border with Mexico.  They generally come from South and Central American countries.

Am I racist for wondering why poor countries can’t be built up in some way?  Why can’t someone do something that would cause poor countries to become richer?  Then people might be able to stay in their own country and have a life.  If I understand things correctly the illegal Mexicans don’t want to live here permanently.  They just want to work and send money back home.  They want their families to have a better life.  I don’t mind if people come here to live.  But wouldn’t it be better if they could stay home and have that better life?  Then they wouldn’t have to sneak across the border which is dangerous.  Then they wouldn’t have to be afraid of the INS.  Etc.

Supposedly there are people of the left politically, who give blankets, food and water to these illegal immigrants as they cross the border. Apparently there are people coming across the border who vandalize property as they come across.  From what I understand, when the property owners tried to stop it, they were called, “racist” and “anti-immigrant”.

The left moans about immigration reform and calls anti-illegal immigrationists "racist".  Yet they won't do anything to make it so that people would be able to work and live in their own countries.  They keep pushing for “multiculturalism”.  It is nothing more than an amalgamation of cultures rather than true “multiculturalism”.  People of different cultures can get along with some effort.  There are culture clashes though.  There are times when no matter what you do, people will NOT get along with one another.  People are either not able or unwilling to accept culture differences. For example, in the U.S., it is considered impolite for a man to urinate outside a store in a parking lot as he is walking along to his car.  The man might get a ticket if a policeman sees him.  Yet this has happened in the town I live in.  The men who did this were originally from another culture.  In some cultures, a man urinating in public is not considered rude I guess.  Other culture clashes cause war to break out. There are times when people seem to get along best when they are living in a country with people of their own culture. Ideally, everyone should have their own country, even the Kurds, Chechens, Basques, etc.  Latvians are a minority in their own country.  The (not so far) right moans about immigration reform too, but they want the border patrol to be allowed to do their job and keep out “illegals” and criminals.

I know that socialism and communism aren’t the answer.  It is not a good idea to take rich people and make them as poor as every one else.  It won’t work to take away their wealth and give it to poor people.  Not everyone has the mind set to use all that money wisely.  Sometimes even rich people don’t use their money wisely.  As I understand it, when a country goes communist, they are drained of their wealth and resources.  Then the communists have to move on to the next place.

If the U.S. is such a bad place, then why do so many people go to great lengths to try and live here?  For a while Chinese people would spend their life savings to try and come here in large leaky boats.  The U.S. government would just send them back to China.  Then they got smart. They then tried to get to Canada, where they sought asylum.  While their asylum claim was being processed, they would sneak across the U.S./Canada border.  They caught some Chinese recently in our area.  The snuck over the border some how.    I don't see what the U.S. govt. has with Chinese coming here?  I know there are immigration quotas.  I have heard that since 9/11, U.S. immigration is tighter.

The “insanity” in/with China could have been prevented.  There were communists in the U.S. State Department in the late 1940’s and early 1950’s.  Some of these agents were living in China in the same building as Soviet agents.  To be a communist in those days, you took a loyalty oath to the Soviet Government.  This was a big deal!!  If I understand things correctly, to swear an oath to a

foreign country is to automatically renounce your U.S. citizenship!  At least I thought that was how it worked.  Those communists in the state department were writing reports saying how good Mao was.  They said the communists were the good guys and that they stood for democracy.  They also wrote that we had to help the communists in their fight against the “evil Chiang Kai-shek”.   If China is such a “free” country, then why are Christians persecuted there?  It is not available to really speak your mind in public in China.  They have political dissidents there.  What kind of “democracy” allows such things???

I guess I have ranted enough.  It is time for bed.  I will write again soon hopefully.
